Lifestyle Counselling
This area is a topic Dr. Fox loves to dive into with her patients. She finds there are very few things as rewarding as helping guide patients through these lifestyle changes gradually over time. Ultimately these positive changes help in reducing the risk of chronic disease, improve moods and energy, encourage weight loss and deeper sleep as well as help provide the optimal terrain for rebalancing and healing.

Manipulation & Physical Medicine
Manipulation and physical medicine is naturopathic medicines greatest kept secrets. When we think about body alignment and bone structure we think of chiropractors. What is so amazing about a naturopathic doctor's scope of practice is that a huge amount of our education and practical training is devoted to joint manipulation and mobilization. Not only that, but we have the understanding to know that when we have a joint that is not functioning properly, there is an underlying cause. Whether that be a structural bone length abnormality or a function muscle imbalance, we are trained to identify and treat those underlying root causes.
Some other tools we use to assist us in this realm are ultrasound, laser, message and condition specific exercises to help restore function.
Acupuncture
The art and practice of acupuncture has been utilized by traditional Chinese (TCM) medical doctors for over two thousand years. Thankfully, this modality has been integrated into many naturopathic medical protocols because of its innate ability to restore balance and promote optimal health naturally.
When you receive acupuncture, you will experience something called the flow of "qi". In western medicine qi would be the equivalent of our immune system because our immune system is our bodies built in healing system. In traditional Chinese medicine, that is where qi comes in! Each point used in acupuncture is associated with a specific channel in our body. Much like our blood vessels, these channels are in charge of distributing energy. But what happens when they get blocked? We use acupuncture of course!
Some of the more common conditions treated with acupuncture are: pain related concerns, stress and anxiety, hormonal imbalances, infertility, allergies, insomnia, low immune function and headaches.
Cosmetic Injections
Dr. Fox believes that less is more when it comes to all cosmetic injections. That holds true to all areas of her practice. Using the lowest possible dose to achieve the desired effect. Whether thats with botanical medicine, nutraceuticals, acupuncture, or cosmetic injectables.
"Botox" is by far the most popular form of cosmetic injection. What is less well known is that Botox is just a brand name. The actual medicine injected is called a neuromodulator. There are 4 different brand names of neuromodulators to choose from: Botox, Dysport, Nucieva, and Xeomin. When injected, they help to relax the muscle being injected so that it stops creating undesired fascial lines and creases.
Dermal fillers have gained huge popularity in the last 5 years. Fillers are great for adding volume and shape to specific areas of the face such as the lips, cheeks, chin, jaw line, and temporal fossa. Or can be used to reduce the appears of fine lines in the marionette, nasolabial, and glabellar region. The active ingredient in all dermal fillers is called hyaluronic acid, a substance we naturally produce and use in our bodies to improve elasticity, volume, lubrication, and structure. By nature, it can hold 1000 time its weight in water which is pretty amazing!
Homeopathy
Homeopathy is one of the gentlest forms of medicine a naturopathic physician will used. It is based off of the treatment principle of "like treats like". What this means is in each homeopathic remedy there is a minute amount of natural occurring substances that share similar energetic properties as the condition being treated. By taking a homeopathic remedy the body is given a nudge, or wake up call so to speak, to start doing what it innately knows how to do, but just wasn't. Which is using it's built in healing system to promote balance and healing.

What can I expect on my first visit with Dr. Fox?
The initial visit lasts 90 minutes and addresses your primary health concerns. A great deal of this time is used to identify the most immediate medical issues while gathering a thorough health history. Physical exams relevant to the areas of concern will be performed in office. In addition, any clinically relevant lab tests will be run in order to help better guide and manage your unique case. Treatment can begin in the first visit, with follow up appointments scheduled in the following 1-4 weeks depending on the health concern being treated.
What type of training does a naturopathic doctor receive?
Naturopathic physicians have a minimum of 7 years of post-secondary education. Training requires four years of Naturopathic medical education from one of seven board-certified & recognized schools in North America. Dr. Fox received her training from the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine in Vancouver, BC. Her training at BINM included 3500 classroom hours divided between the topics of the Health Sciences and our core modalities (Acupuncture/Traditional Asian medicine, Nutrition, Counselling, Homeopathy, Physical Medicine, Osseous manipulation, and Orthomolecular medicine). Similar to the curriculum at a conventional medical school – the first two years of Naturopathic Medical school are focused on gaining an in-depth understanding of the science of the human body. Upon completion of this education, Naturopathic Physicians are qualified to work as primary care physicians.
After 4 years of training at BINM, Dr. Fox completed over 1200 hours as a student intern in the teaching clinic – treating patients under the supervision of a licensed Naturopathic Physician and over 300 hours observing Naturopathic Doctors in their own offices.
Prior to her training at BINM, Dr. Fox completed her undergraduate degree: a Bachelors of Kinesiology - from the University of the Fraser Valley.
Is naturopathic medicine covered by BC Medical?
Naturopathic medicine is not covered by BC Medical (MSP) for most residents in British Columbia, including Chilliwack. However, individuals who qualify for MSP Premium Assistance may have partial coverage for a limited number of visits to supplementary health practitioners, including naturopathic doctors, as part of a combined total of 10 visits per calendar year for services like physiotherapy, chiropractic care, and acupuncture.
For the majority of people, naturopathic services are covered by extended health insurance plans, which often reimburse part or all of the cost. We recommend checking with your insurance provider to confirm whether naturopathic treatments are included in your coverage. We are happy to provide receipts for you to submit to your insurance company.
Does my health insurance cover the cost of my visit?
Most extended health care plans will cover a portion of the cost of your visit, supplements and diagnostic testing. With that said each and every insurance company offers different types of benefits, so be sure to inquire about the details of your coverage. For example, some companies will cover lab and diagnostic testing, while others will cover a portion or none at all. Because naturopathic medicine is not covered by MSP, it is especially important to make these inquiries. The good news is that at Restorative Health we process all of this for you, so you don't have to worry about sending in receipts. Your insurance coverage is applied instantly to the cost of your visit.
